Scheduling of step-improving jobs with an identical improving rate

چکیده

Job processing times change over time in real-life production and manufacturing systems due to various factors including machine or worker learning, deterioration, system upgrades technological shocks. For step-improving times, job are reduced by a certain rate if they start process at, after, common critical date, which has wide applicability real-world settings, such as data gathering networks with part-time workers. This paper considers single scheduling of minimizing total weighted completion jobs. The problem is shown be intractable. Both exact heuristic algorithms developed, the approximability algorithm for special case problem. Finally, computational experiments show that proposed provide very effective efficient solutions.

Scheduling with step-improving processing times

We consider the scheduling problem of minimizing the makespan on a single machine with step-improving job processing times around a common critical date. For this problem we give an NP-hardness proof, a fast pseudo-polynomial time algorithm, an FPTAS, and an on-line algorithm with best possible competitive ratio.

Flowshop scheduling with identical jobs and uniform parallel machines

The single-stage scheduling problem to minimize the makespan of identical jobs on uniform parallel machines is known to be solvable in polynomial-time. We extend this work to consider multi-stage systems with flowshop configuration. We show that the 2-stage problem may also be solved in polynomial-time and for the number of stages greater than two, the problem is shown to be NP-hard. We present...

Batch scheduling of step deteriorating jobs

In this paper we consider the problem of scheduling n jobs on a single machine, where the jobs are processed in batches and the processing time of each job is a step function depending on its waiting time, which is the time between the start of the processing of the batch to which the job belongs and the start of the processing of the job. For job i, if its waiting time is less than a given thr...

Online Scheduling of Jobs for D-benevolent instances On Identical Machines

We consider online scheduling of jobs with specic release time on m identical machines. Each job has a weight and a size; the goal is maximizing total weight of completed jobs. At release time of a job it must immediately be scheduled on a machine or it will be rejected. It is also allowed during execution of a job to preempt it; however, it will be lost and only weight of completed jobs contri...

Minimizing total completion time on a single machine with step improving jobs Open

Production systems often experience a shock or a technological change, resulting in performance improvement. In such settings, job processing times become shorter if jobs start processing at, or after, a common critical date. This paper considers a single machine scheduling problem with step-improving processing times, where the effects are job-dependent. The objective is to minimize the total ...
